Do You Agree or Disagree with the Following Statement

First, computers contain office software as well as recreational functions. If one is not self-disciplined, it is easy for them to lose track of time when they use the internet at home. The home environment is greatly conducive to lounging on a sofa watching T. V or cooking or calling friends over to play video games. You don't feel important and co-inhabitants do not take you seriously. How do you work and not go-to work? Take my friend Emily as an example, she is a columnist. Once she worked at a newspaper office.Chatting on line, watching movies or browsing irrelevant websites are not allowed during work time, so she has to just focus on her work. But this year she started to work at home. She writes articles at home and sends them to editors by e-mails. I thought this would be great as she doesn’t need to spend time on commute. However, she told me that at home she can’t help logging on msn and chatting with people or browsing irrelevant websites, sometimes she even plays computer games. As a result, she gradually became a procrastinator. These days she often starts to finish her tasks near deadlines. Second, working at home makes people isolated. Working in the office provides an opportunity to get along with colleagues. And sometimes colleagues can be good friends, which brings lots fun. Social interaction takes the form of group-energy in the workplace. Most people are extroverts and therefore need other people around to maintain motivation. My sister, Dorinda, is a introvert and nearly has no words. When some mistakes happens in her work and she is critized by boss, she is so depressed that has no energy and persistance to move on. But her colleagues find she is unusual and come to ask the reason. Then they encourage Dorinda and help her check, under all the colleagues’ help, she does better and is usually prasied by boss. Therefore, working with colleagues does better academically than their isolated counterparts. Finally, though usi ng the computer and the telephone at home can help finish some work, it reduced face-to-face interaction with other employees or supervisors.Sometimes, a complex problem can’t be solved only by words successfully, it needs discussions or even arguments that create innovative ideas and strategic decisions. Take me for instance, if I have some questions in my homework, I perfer asking teachers after class rahter than just call him. Through face-to- face interaction, I can see the method and the ways of solving the question and find where my mistakes are. Moreover, boss are more facinated with the traditional way of managing. He eeds to make sure everyone is concertrated on working. In order to make the communications more effective, working at office and face-to-face interaction is necessary. I have to admit that modern technology like computer and telephone does bring convenience to people’s life. They enable people to work at home and make schedules more freely. Howeve r, I still believe that the defects of working at home outweigh its merits since there is no guarantee that working at home enhance proficiency. Do You Agree or Disagree with the Following Statement? Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Playing computer games teaches us about life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer With times changing, there are some newly released computer games designed not only for people to relax but also allows them to live in a virtual world. Some said that these games can expose people to latest innovations, improve their reactions, and do what they are forbidden to do in the real world. However, I disagree that playing computer games teaches us about life. In my opinion, this unreal world doesn’t teach us how to connect with others face-to-face, but it wastes our valuable time. What’s more, those games will bring some life problems. First of all, game players are attracted to these fresh and new games while playing computer games. This causes them to be addicted to the fantasized, unreal world unknowingly. Most of the computer games nowadays are added in on-line function so that they can communicate with game partners, and share the experience of what they played in games with other players. All their life is influenced by game scenes and exciting visual effects, which results in their frowziness and eventually, they are heading towards addiction. Meanwhile, with incorrect thoughts disturbing their minds, they gradually think that they are free to do anything as what the roles do in games. In that virtual world, game players come who from different places form a team, and develop a survival model by killing monsters and enemies with an avenging awareness. However, they would attempt to copy the experience from games to the real world engaging in hostilities in order to solve life problems. This elicits the situation of aggressive and illegal behavior when they suffer from the frustrations such as being blamed by parents, failing exams, having bad personal relationships. Finally, playing computer games for long hours does not teach players how to improve their living qualities, instead, it worsens their health condition. During the period of playing, they would prefer to save time by eating fast food rather than choice different variation of food often resulting in obesity. Also, as soon as they start to play the games, hardly can they stop to rest for a while. This usually causes high pressure. What’s worse, they are willing to sit up all night and continue playing computer games when they should take rest. As a result, it may trigger strokes. Although these computer games do really change the form of entertainments and display the innovations of technology, people currently do not realize that it would become disadvantageous to them when they are over-enjoying than fit relaxation. Therefore, playing computer games does not help people learn about life but lead people to forget the time passing, ignore the interpersonal relationships they have, even more damage their health.

On Judaism and Christianity: A Comparison and Contrast World Religions Report Essay

Abstract   This study examined the similarities and differences of Judaism and Christianity in terms of three critical issues to wit: Sin, Messiah, and Covenant.   A visit to the synagogue was undertaken in order to further examine the culture and traditions of the Jewish community. Likewise, the author for the purpose of obtaining first-hand information also conducted an interview with a member of the Jewish community. The information derived from the said interview facilitated further understanding of the nature of the design of synagogues as well as of the various activities that are being carried out in the worship place. On Judaism and Christianity:   A Comparison and Contrast Introduction   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Religion, as defined in most references, refers to the set of beliefs concerning the nature and purpose of the universe. (Unabridged Dictionary, 1998, p. 1628). It serves as a medium for us to better understand why people or societies differ in terms of reactions to various issues, ideologies, actions, etc.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   This paper aims to provide an overview of Judaism. Likewise, it also aims to present how the said religion differs from Christianity by means of examining three critical issues to wit: sin, the messiah, and the covenant.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   According to Armstrong (1993), Judaism had its beginnings in Palestine. It is said to be one of the oldest and 12th among the largest religions in the world. Likewise, it is noted that Judaism is dominant in countries like the USA, Europe, and Israel.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Likewise, Armstrong (1993) stated that Abraham introduced Judaism in Palestine and its followers were globally known as Jews. The word Jew, as cited in most references, actually means people who live in Judah. Name, Location and Review of the site Mr. Kristoff Frank was interviewed for this paper. He provided the author relevant information pertaining to Judaism’s nature as an institutional belief. Likewise, he also shared the Jews’ concept of sin, the messiah, and the covenant. The Jew’s Place of Worship The Jews’ place of worship is known as the synagogue. The synagogue, according to Mr. Frank, differs from the place of worship of other religions since it serves not only as a venue for praying but also a place for studying and for social and charitable works.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As stated by Mr. Frank, a synagogue has its board of directors. The said board of directors is usually comprised of lay people. This group is in-charge of ensuring the maintenance of the synagogues as well as the management of the activities being conducted in the place.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The board of directors usually hires a rabbi, which is actually equivalent to a priest in other religions. A rabbi is a valuable member of the Jewish community because it provides leadership, guidance, and education to the Jewish people. However, it was noted that, unlike other religions, a rabbi might be absent from a synagogue on a temporary basis and that religious activities may be carried out in the absence of a rabbi.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Inside the synagogue, it can be noted that during sessions, the passing of collection baskets are absent. This is so because Jews are not allowed to carry money during holidays and Sabbath.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As per Mr. Frank, synagogues are financed by means of the payment of the members’ annual dues, voluntary donations, and via the payment for reserved seats for services during Rosh Hashanah (New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). Design of Synagogues Sanctuary is the term being used to refer to a portion inside the synagogue that is assigned for the conduct of prayer services. As per Mr. Frank, the sanctuary is built in such a way that it faces towards the direction of Jerusalem. This is so because certain prayers of Judaism must be recited facing the said direction.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The Sanctuary is also a seat to a cabinet found in the synagogue’s wall.   The said cabinet is known as the Ark. The Ark actually holds the Torah scrolls (scriptures that are used during services written in parchment paper).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Other notable structures found inside the synagogue are the Eternal Lamp (Ner Tamid), a candlelabrum (Menorah), and a pedestal (bimah).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Based on observations made, it can be noted that the architectural design of synagogues are simpler as compared with the churches we see. This perhaps may be due to the wide range of activities that may be conducted in the place. Interview Summary As cited in earlier, one of the main objectives of this paper is to provide an overview of Judaism. According to Mr. Frank, Judaism is a monotheistic type of religion and its followers are guided by the principle that history is an ongoing dialogue between God and humanity. Hence, as a Jew, it is his duty to be able to live within the teachings of the Torah. This, according to Mr. Frank, is the way by which the Jews will be able to fulfill God’s plan for them as well as realize their pre-determined contribution to their country and the whole world in general. The Jew’s concept of sin, as cited by Mr. Frank and other references on Judaism, includes actions that tend to deviate from the teachings stipulated in the Torah. Moreover, according to Mr. Frank, sin for the Jews consists of three elements (i.e. het, avon, and pesha). Mr. Frank explained that the Het or the missing mark has something to do with respect to the highest ideal. While Avon and Pesha has something to do with the deviation from what is right and lawful (as stated in the Torah) and the act of rebellion against the law and the authorities, respectively. Taking these definitions into account, it can be said that the concept of sin for the Jews would actually refer to the individual’s failure to carry out his obligations in accordance with the Torah, rituals, and the Jewish social norms. Furthermore, as cited in other references, the concept of original sin in Judaism does not exist. Adam and Eve’s situation are considered not as an original sin but more of a consequence of the actions that both individuals have undertaken. As per Cohen-Sherbok (1999), the concept of Messiah also exists in Judaism. However, it cannot be left unnoticed that in the institutional belief understudy, the Messiah can be any person with a Divine mission (i.e. priests, kings, and prophets) and is still yet to come. Hence, Jesus Christ is not considered as a Messiah but a false prophet. In Judaism, there also exist the concept of a covenant. This is actually known as berith in their native parlance. According to Mr. Frank, the covenant is the contractual agreement between God and the Jewish people. It represents the special relationship of God with the Jews that was built in Mt. Sinai. Judaism vis-à  -vis Christianity Christianity possesses similar attributes with that of Judaism. However, it can be noted that both institutional beliefs differ in some aspects. This may be understood by means of reviewing Christianity in terms of its concept of sin, the messiah, and covenant.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In Christianity, sin is also referred to as an action that deviates from the teachings stipulated in the Holy Scripture. Repentance, atonement, and the need to live in accordance with the commandments given by God are pre-requisites to living a Christian life. However, despite the similarities, it can be noted that Judaism and Christianity differs in three aspects to wit: concepts of original sin and eternal life. As mentioned earlier, Judaism does not recognize the concept of original sin. As mentioned earlier, Jews took Adam and Eve’s situation as a consequence of the choices or actions undertaken by both individuals. With this, the thinking that individuals are born with original sin is not accepted in Judaism as well as the concept of baptism. The concept of eternal life also does not exist in Judaism. This is so because Judaism does not recognize Jesus Christ as its savior. In fact, Jesus Christ is regarded as a false prophet. Likewise, the Jews believe that their destiny depends on their good deeds. The concept of messiah for both institutional beliefs is similar except for the fact that in Judaism, Jesus Christ is not considered as a messiah but a false prophet. As stated earlier, the covenant is regarded as a contractual agreement between God and the Jewish people unlike in Christianity that regards Jesus Christ not only as the messiah but also the new covenant. Christianity recognizes that God gave Jesus Christ to save mankind from sin and that by means of accepting him as the people’s savior and creator reconciles an individual’s relationship with God the Father. Conclusion Taking into consideration all the information gathered pertaining to Judaism and Christianity, it can be said that both institutional beliefs are similar and that Christianity further enhances the teachings and practices of Judaism.    References Armstrong, Karen. Middle East in the 18th century Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Middle East in the 18th century - Term Paper Example The Balfour Declaration was issued by the British government in November 2, 1917. The Balfour Declaration was as a result of several simultaneous political events that emanated during the First World War. The events include: British philosemitism, Britain’s military requirements during the First World War, Zionists diplomatic activities, and foreign policy and imperial interests of the British. Other scholars argue that the Balfour Declaration came as a result of the Winter of 1916 to 1917. The Zionists were seeking the support of their aims from the British because they saw no future without the declaration of the support by the British (Gutwein 338). The aim of the Zionists was very clear since 1896 and all what they wanted was to be allowed to form a publicly and legally secured home for the Jewish people that were in Palestine. Other than security, they wanted assurance. This means that the Zionists wanted to create an autonomous Jewish state within Palestine. The same sentiments to allow Jewish Zionists aspirations were echoed by a prominent American Zionist, Hon. Louis Brandeis in 1915. The declaration was beyond the protection of the small Jewish community that lived in Palestine; it was to protect the Jews all around the world (Rifkind 24). The Sykes-Picot Accord was declared on May 16, 1916. The accord was negotiated by the French diplomat Francois Georges-Picot and Briton Mark Sykes in November 1915. It was a secret agreement between the governments of France and Britain in defining their influence in the post-World War 1 and their control of the Middle East. The boundaries that were drawn in the accord still remain in the present border between Iraq and Syria. In the accord, Britain was given control of the Iraq, and Jordan areas and a small region around Haifa. France was given control of the northern Iraq, Lebanon, South-eastern Turkey and

Critique of case 41 and 42 Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Critique of 41 and 42 - Case Study Example Pelagius asserted that the glory of the rational mind is based on the ability of man to choose freely whatever is virtuous to him. While referring to the virgin, Pelagius argues that man, like the virgin, must recognize his own strengths. This realization would enable him employ to the full. Man should teach the mind that it is possible to do anything that one certainly wants to do. Pelagius tries to justify the fact that the virgin made a wise decision. Pelagius claims the existence of a certain form of natural sanctity in the minds of men that play key roles regarding Christianity and holiness. He states that this natural sanctity, like the mind’s citadel is able to administer judgments to the sinner and righteous. The mind also condemns wrong actions committed by the person. It also has the ability to distinguish the one side from the other basing on the inner law. In other words, the Pelagius was supporting the fact that human being has inherent law that originates in the mind. Unlike the common laws, these inner laws are most reliable and incorruptible of witness. These kinds of laws are distinct from the common laws in that they are implanted in the hearts of men and women. However, the author acknowledges the fact that although man has the freedom to choose what is true or evil, others find it difficult to do good. He states that people have long habits of doing wrong (Augustine 216). This habit is ingrained in the people’s minds and heart and has infected humankind from childhood. These habits are what hold man in bondage and slavery. Pelagius termed this kind of bondage as acquired because it is not inherent. This means that it is possible for man to avoid sinning only if he accepts and repent. However, in text 42 of the article, we are presented with another version of the human nature and grace. This is where Augustine of Hippo explained his theological point of view of grace. Augustine was responding

English - Answer questions from 3 Articles Article

English - Answer questions from 3 Articles - Article Example es how the onus must be on developed countries to take the lead in combating rampant over-consumption, because it is these countries that are over-consuming. Furthermore, these practices of overconsumption create problems in developing countries – climate change, for instance, has a global impact despite being caused almost entirely by developed countries. 2. The most significant impact the article â€Å"The Last Empire† by Jacques Leslie is the inherent idea that the current world order expects so-called â€Å"developing† countries to never truly develop, and if they did the quality of life in so-called â€Å"developed† countries would drop perceptibly – meaning that not only do industrialized nations have an incredible incentive to keep developing countries down, they can actually only afford their quality of life on the backs of developing countries. China is one of the few countries, along with Brazil and India, to truly have â€Å"developed† in the past thirty years – with its economy, and consumption, skyrocketing. This increased consumption has led to vast increases in commodity prices, as more and more food, for instance, had to be imported from abroad (Leslie). Now, if China’s economy improving alone could do that, imagine how drastic the increase in commodity prices, and thus decrease in standard of living, would be caused by the rest of the â€Å"developing† world improving. 3. The main point of â€Å"Rethinking the Meat Guzzler† by Mark Bittman is that the cost of raising meat for consumption is absurdly high, and is increasing at an exponential rate. But by far the most significant aspect of his argument is that the raising of livestock puts a great deal of pressure on grain and energy production, meaning in essence meat, and meat eaters are taking resources away from people who need them. According to Bittman, â€Å"nearly 30 percent of the earth’s ice-free land is directly or indirectly involved with livestock production† – and

Ethics and sustaibanbility Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Ethics and sustaibanbility - Essay Example Toyota got into a situation wherein disclosure could be damaging to both the company and to its customers. An ethical problem existed wherein a decision has to be made between what is bad and what is good. Toyota is also faced with a decision to act based on legality or efficiency of actions. The first steps in analyzing ethical issues are getting the facts to guide decisions and next are the appeal to values because the facts does not tell us what to do, but values directs us to moral issues of decisions. Documents showed that the Toyota knew of the problem with the sticky pedals in late September but did not issue a recall until late January. Why did they hide it from the public? Was it their intention to continue selling damaged vehicles and let buyers beware and face accidents? There is very little information on the internal events about the damage, who discovered it and other related details. What has been established is that Toyota knew of the damage as early as September of 2009 but made announcements only in late January in 2010. In five months time, there could have been accidents due to faulty breaks that could have been avoided. Individual groups who have important stake in the issue are customers of Toyota; the management and stockholders and the government. Some concerns that got Toyota into a mess, I believe, is the fear for outcome of decisions that would adversely affect Toyota’s operation. Those who will be affected by the first action are the Toyota customers who are facing dangers of accident due to faulty break system. Report said that there are about 2.3 million Toyota vehicles affected by the damage. In the second action, when Toyota announced to public the damage and recall of the cars, those affected are the stockholders and management. Confidence of customers on Toyota is threatened thereby there is a risk of decline of sales. Investors will also lose

DMV-Week Three - Essay Example The five whys will help identify a core problem at the DMV. The first question one might ask is â€Å"Why are the lines so long† - lines being the symptom. The answer to this would probably be â€Å"too many people and not enough staff.† The second logical question would be â€Å"why are there not enough staff to quickly and efficiently address all the patrons?†, to which a DMV apologist might answer â€Å"because there are not enough resources allocated to staffing the DMV.† Finally, a fourth â€Å"why† question will get at a cause of the issue. â€Å"Why are not enough resources allocated to the DMV to allow it to operate properly?† to which the answer may be â€Å"because there is no incentive to improve customer service.† Finally, the question to get at the root cause would probably be â€Å"why is there no incentive to improve customer service?† with the answer being, â€Å"because the DMV has a monopoly on its services.â € One solution might then be to contract it to outside companies, using wait times as an evaluation tool, or else giving bonuses to DMVs that handle the most patrons the fastest to incentivise short wait times and create artificial

In the past were some people that dont know how to use a computer or use some programs, or machines and want to know how to use, but sometimes dont have the chance for learn either for the absence of money or because dont are courses, project or programs for try to learn, and if there exist are so expensive or dont have enough capacity, also in the educational part the old structure of education just focused in the development of the knowledge and not the in the development of the creativity of the students. However, now almost of the people know use a computer, smartphone, laptop, etc., but keep being people that dont know how to use these and need help for learn how to manipulate, these are one of the reason that need to create courses, project or programs for include more and more the community.
